Frequently asked questions
Do I need a tax representative?
Non-residents outside the EU/EEA only have to appoint a representative when they have a tax relationship in Portugal (for example property, a vehicle or an activity). Signing up for electronic notifications on the tax portal removes that obligation, except for people carrying out an activity subject to VAT.
Can I get a NIF without travelling?
Yes, usually through a representative holding a power of attorney and certified copies of your documents. We explain what is needed in your case.
